Alice Bethencourt Reis was born in Lisbon on 12th November 1949, graduated from the Faculty of Law, Classic University of Lisbon, and has been registered as a lawyer in Ordem dos Advogados since 1976.

In May 1974, he joined the Império Insurance Company’s litigation, where he acquired his first experience with the “world of insurance”.

Between October 1975 and July 1976, an important period for the insurance industry in Portugal in view of the nationalisations and restructuring of the financial sector, she was called upon to act as assistant to the under-Secretary of State for Insurance.

She was the founder of the Portuguese Section of the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA), of which she was Vice President.

For her dynamism and competence, between August 1976 and December 1989, she was Director of Legal Services and International Relations of the then National Institute of Insurance, overseeing the elaboration of all the regulating legislation of the insurance activity.

At the same time, he led the portuguese mission in the negotiation process of accession to the EEC-European Economic Community, in the insurance sector.

In January 1990, he started, as sole responsible, the whole process of installation in Portugal of the insurance group AEGON (branches Non-Life in 1990 and Life in 1992).

She chaired the Portuguese Insurance Association’s Technical Commissions for Civil Liability between 1991 and 1997 and for Automobile between 1997 and 2005.

President of the Professional Civil Liability Committee of the Comité Européen des Assurances in Paris between 1992 and 1994.

She was a Manager of Companhia de Seguros Fidelidade, S.A., from 1994 to 2002 and, on its behalf, was President of Companhia Portuguesa de Resseguros, from 1997 to 2002.

From 2002 to 2009 he accepted another challenging project, serving as Vice President and CEO of Companhia de Seguros Sagres.

She was also President and member of the Board of Directors of CIMASA – Centro de Intermediação, Mediação e Arbitragem do Seguro Automóvel, from 2000 to 2009.

He has given training, particularly at the Catholic University, on community law, insurance law, motor vehicle liability and general civil liability.

Since 2010, she has been practicing as a legal consultant in several areas, namely insurance law.
